EnsiliTech® Showcases the Power of Patents in Driving Innovation and Global Health
Bristol, UK – EnsiliTech, the University of Bath spin-out pioneering Ensilication® technology, is demonstrating how companies can use intellectual property to turn scientific innovation into real-world impact.
The company’s patented Ensilication technology stabilises vaccines and biologics at temperatures from –80 °C to +50 °C, removing the need for refrigeration. This innovation has the potential to make medicines more accessible, reduce costs and lower the carbon footprint of cold-chain distribution.
In recent months EnsiliTech has shared its IP journey with policymakers and stakeholders at the highest levels. The company presented to MPs at Westminster, contributed to the ICC UK / CIPA report Why Patents Are Essential for Innovation and Growth and shared insights on CIPA’s Two IPs in a Pod podcast. Participating in a UK trade delegation to the World Trade Organisation in Geneva, EnsiliTech Co-founder and Scientific Advisor, Dr Stephen Wells, reinforced the message that “protected IP is an investable asset,” illustrating how the company’s first patent enabled its earliest funding and set in motion a “virtuous cycle” of research, innovation, patenting, and reinvestment.
“Our story shows that intellectual property protections are not barriers but bridges — enabling investment and collaboration,” said Dr Sartbaeva. “They give companies like EnsiliTech the confidence to bring bold new ideas to life, exploring solutions that can have global impact.”
Through its growing patent portfolio, close engagement with policymakers, and ongoing collaborations with partners across the biopharma ecosystem, EnsiliTech continues to demonstrate how a strong IP foundation is essential for advancing science, scaling solutions, and shaping a healthier, more equitable future.
